Over the last decade or so, we have seen a turn toward the production of educational platforms in the art world. The so-called 'Pedagogical Turn' has rerouted institutional resources toward alternative schools, seminar programs, and endless lectures. Furthermore, this seems to have happened at all scales--from the giant museum to the fledgling artist-run space. Why has developing alternative educational models come to feel so important? And what is it that is taught in these platforms teach that makes them alternative? This breakout session is a conversation between Gean Moreno, who has developed a number of pedagogical platforms in different Miami institutions, and some of the artists who have attended these programs, as a way to begin to flesh out why these models are good for and why they are worth thinking about.
