Help celebrate the conclusion of Common Field’s 2017 Convening with a multi-locational party. We’ll begin the evening at Human Resources with performances. Then, together we’ll take a short walk across the Los Angeles River over the North Broadway Bridge to Metabolic Studio for a closing bash. We’ll conclude our Convening programming here with a send off to remember, complete with a collective action planting of a ‘common field’, cocktails and closing remarks. Until next year!

Note: If accessibility is a consideration of yours, we recommend using a ride-sharing service.

PART 1: 8 PM - 9 PM / Evening Program @ Human Resources
with Performances by Signe Pierce and Elliot Reed

Begin the evening at Human Resources, a non-profit exhibition and performance space located in Los Angeles's Chinatown, and  dedicated to supporting interdisciplinary, performative and experimental art practices.

Elliot Reed is a performance artist and musician based in Los Angeles. He has shown internationally in Tokyo, Osaka, Paris, and London, in addition to presenting work at The Gene Siskel Film Center, The Broad Museum, The Hammer Museum, University of Southern California, University of Chicago, Northwestern University, FOKL Arts Center Kansas City, and other venues in Baltimore, Chicago, New York, Dowelltown Tennesee, Austin, Marfa, Tuscon, and Phoenix. in 2013 he founded Elliot Reed Laboratories where he currently serves as Director of Lab Operations and sole employee.

Elliot is proud to debut a new performance titled "Motor Group" for the Common Field Convening.

Signe Pierce is a multimedia artist whose work straddles performance, photography, video, social media, light design and installation.  As a self-described "reality artist", Pierce's work is inspired by the concept of reality being an artistic medium, and that an artist's life can be viewed within a similar context as an artist's work.  Her ideology often explores the myriad facets of perception involved in discerning what constitutes as being "real" within the burgeoning era of hyperreality and technological singularity.

Over the past year, Pierce has participated in multiple performances, installations, and exhibitions, including solo shows at Annka Kultys Gallery in London and Galerie Nathalie Halgand in Vienna, a performance at the Museum of Modern Art, and an artist's talk at Yale University. She is the star and co-creator of the acclaimed short film, American Reflexxx, which has received multiple awards and has been screened in over 15 countries.

Signe Pierce is pleased to present Virtual Normality, a conceptual discussion dissecting the perceptual intersections occurring between art, reality, technology, and consciousness in 2017. Pierce will fuse her practice as a performance artist within the framework of an artist's talk to explore questions and concepts concerning reality as an art form, as well as the paradoxical nature of discerning reality from fiction within the era of "Alternative Facts".

PART 2: 9:00 PM - MIDNIGHT / Closing Bash @ Metabolic Studio
Metabolic Studio
1745 N Spring St #4, Los Angeles, CA 90012

Lauren Bon and Metabolic Studio invite you to participate in the seeding of a “Common Field” under the full moon to mark the closing moment of the Common Field 2017 Los Angeles Convening. We will be casting 26 pounds of native seeds collected and cleaned by California Native plant expert Nicholas Hummingbird from the Cahuilla/Apache tribe. Nicholas collects regionally adaptive native seeds and cuttings from his walks throughout Southern California. The collection of wildland seeds from native plants is the first step in a lengthy process of making plant materials available for land restoration projects. This collaborative seeding of a common field takes place on Yaangna, the ancient floodplain of the Los Angeles River. On this site, Metabolic Studio will regenerate the waste water river as part of Bending the River using native plants for remediation of Yaagna, including those we will be casting together on November 4 th . Metabolic Studio will also open our community space where the Reimagine Everything print studio has been active during 2017. Common Field guests are invited to make prints using our collection of open sourced screens.
