About Allison

Allison Freedman Weisberg founded Recess in 2009 to support artists working in partnership with the public to define and advance contemporary art practice. As Executive Director, she has developed the organization from an emerging institution with a single program to a multifaceted resource for diverse artists and audiences. Her work uniting creative practitioners began in the Education Department at the Museum of Modern Art and continued when became the Senior Coordinator of Youth and Community Programs at the Whitney Museum of American Art. She has given lectures for a variety of MFA programs including Yale and Hunter and spoken at diverse institutions such as the New Museum and Common Field. She has written texts for artist publications and contributed to Art in America. Weisberg holds a BA from Wesleyan University, and an MA with honors in Visual Culture Theory from NYU.
