About Gelare

Gelare Khoshgozaran گلاره خوشگذران is an interdisciplinary artist, writer and translator working across the mediums of video, performance, installation and writing. Born and raised in Tehran, Iran, she received her undergraduate degree in Photography from the University of Arts, Tehran. In 2009 she moved to the United States to join the MFA Fine Arts program at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Her writings have been published in the Brooklyn Rail, Parkett, Temporary Art Review, tripwire, Jadaliyya, The Enemy, Ajam Media Collective and Shangri La: Imagined Cities exhibition catalog (co-edited by Rijin Sahakian and Mostafa Heddaya) among many other publications. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions at international venues such as the Queens Museum of Art, Museo Ex-Teresa Arte Actual, Malmö Konsthall, The LA Municipal Art Gallery, Southern Exposure, Human Resources Gallery, Interstate Projects and Thomas Erben Gallery in NYC, among others. Gelare Khoshgozaran was the recipient of the 2015 California Community Foundation Fellowship for Visual Artists in the emerging category, the 2015 Creative Capital | Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant, and the 2016 Rema Hort Mann Foundation Award for Emerging Artists. She is the co-founder and editor of the 2016 Arts Writers Grant Awarded blog, contemptorary.org.
