Mike Blockstein is a visual artist, educator and Principal of Public Matters, a Los Angeles-based social enterprise that uses socially-engaged art to connect people to their neighborhoods; foster a sense of belonging and social purpose; and build the capacity of residents and local organizations to shape their communities. Mike has a long track of pushing paradigms in the visual arts. He has created and led projects in San Francisco, Boston and Los Angeles, working with youth, community leaders and organizations to reflect on, understand and shape their physical, social and political geographies. His work infuses artistic practice into civic life. Mike holds a Masters of Public Administration from Harvardâ€™s Kennedy School. He previously was Executive Director of Southern Exposure, a San Francisco nonprofit artists' organization, and a former Board President of the National Association of Artists Organizations (NAAO).
